Swiss National Bank to distribute twice as much to communities with rising profits

Finances “Four billion francs: this is the amount that the Swiss National Bank (SNB) will redistribute this year to the Confederation and the cantons. This is double what was allocated to them in 2019. The sharply rising profits of the SNB (48.9 billion francs) last year explain this significant increase. According to the agreement signed between the institution and the Federal Department of Finance, one third of the four billion will be allocated to the Confederation and two thirds to the cantons.
The sums are allocated according to the size of the population: Geneva will thus obtain 155 million francs. For Nathalie Fontanet, State Councilor in charge of Finance (plr), this is “good news that will reduce the deficit planned in the 2020 budget, 585 million francs, and bring it down to 430 million” .
