Colombia won the Copa America third-place game by beating Peru 3-2, thanks to a brace from Luis Diaz, who gave the victory to his team in stoppage time on Friday in Brasilia.
Yotun Yet opened the scoring for the Peruvians just before the break, following a magnificent collective action.
Square equalized early in the second half, before giving an assist for the first goal of Luis Diaz’s two goals.
Unhappy finalists of the last edition against Brazil, Peru rebelled ten minutes from time, with a header by Lapadula, but Diaz spared the Colombians a risky penalty shootout by scoring at the very end of the match with a superb curling shot, after a one-two with Muriel.
With this double, Diaz, a 24-year-old winger who plays for FC Porto, rose to the top of the Copa America scorers’ standings, with four goals, tied with the Argentinian Lionel Messi.
The grand final between Brazil and Argentina will take place on Saturday evening (00h00 GMT Sunday) at the legendary Maracana stadium, which will be exceptionally authorized to receive the public, with a gauge of 10%.
