A large number of citizens are expected to go out to celebrate the New Year. Roads will be closed in many neighborhoods to enhance public transport services

The Hong Kong Tourism Board will hold a countdown to the New Year tonight. Police expect large numbers of people to celebrate along the coast of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon and at tourist attractions. A series of road closures, detours and crowd management measures will be implemented from the afternoon.

In Kowloon, roads in the Tsim Sha Tsui area will be closed in succession from 20:00, including West Kowloon Cultural District and many roads in eastern Tsim Sha Tsui area. The scope of road closures will be expanded in response to the flow of people, and crowd management measures will be implemented.

On Hong Kong Island, some roads in Lan Kwai Fong in the Central District will be closed in the afternoon and traffic diversions will be implemented near the Central Pier in the evening; streets in Wan Chai Convention and Exhibition Center, Golden Bauhinia Square and Wan Chai North will be closed in the evening; the area around the Peak will also be closed depending on road closures for traffic.
