The City Council plans to build social housing and cultural facilities on this site.
These days, the artist Elisa Capdevila is putting the finishing touches on the 24-meter-high mural on the party walls of 100-102 Paral·lel Avenue. This work produced and curated by Street Art Barcelona and promoted by a long list of neighborhood entities grouped on the Sant Antoni platform to recover the Talia is a vindication of the memory of the historic stage inaugurated in 1900 with the name of Las Delicias. Then, in the 1950s, the actor Paco Martínez Soria acquired the equipment, which remained active until the 1980s.
Later it was demolished and the corresponding site crossed a long via cruzis. For years the place housed a few shanties. Sometimes, when you passed by, you came across a running rat… And with increasing force, more and more people asked the administrations not to condemn this piece of Barcelona’s memory to oblivion. And the truth is that the latest plans of Mayor Jaume Collboni’s government announced these days regarding the prompt rehabilitation of the nearby Arnau theater put this corner back on the table. Suddenly things are moving again in Paral·lel.
The last government of Ada Colau ordered this site to be expropriated in order to build housing for young and old people and a cultural facility here. Meanwhile they put up some swings. So the City Council’s plan was for the works to begin during the current term. Many neighbors are crossing their fingers that the highly anticipated final project does not betray the memory of the Talia.
