A landfill was burning in Ďáblice, Prague – Novinky.cz

The thick column of smoke was visible from the D8 motorway and Cínovecká Street on Wednesday before midnight. A moment later, several meters of flames erupted. That it was a larger fire was also seen by firefighters arriving from a distance.

“It burned on an area of approximately 30 x 10 meters, while bales of pressed waste were stacked to a height of four meters. In view of the number of intervening units, the 2nd degree of fire alarm was announced and firefighters deployed four water jets to intervene,” said a spokesman for firefighters. Martin Kavka.

Dense smoke complicated traffic around the landfill, including the D8 motorway, where visibility was reduced. Due to the smoke, firefighters advised people in Střížkov and Ďáblice not to ventilate. Exhaust concentrations were measured on site by firefighters.

The fire was quickly brought under fire by firefighters. But then it took them several hours to catch up. They imported water by shuttle in tanks. It is not yet clear exactly how the fire occurred. The damage will most likely be zero, given that it was waste.
