A. KE: The PtD to Guterres repeats ready to solve the Cyprus problem.

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, will repeat to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, with whom he will meet tomorrow, how willing he is to support any initiative that move towards solving the Cyprus problem. , through substantial negotiations, he said On Sunday, the Deputy Speaker of the Government, Yiannis Antoniou, said in his commemorative speech at the national monument of the heroes of Newtown Kythrea, which took place at the Church of Saint Agios Charalambous in Aglantzia.

Mr. Antoniou pointed out that “our pursuit is to find a permanent solution to the Cyprus problem, which will create the conditions for the Republic of Cyprus to develop into a normal state without an occupying army, without sponsors with aggressive rights.” A state that provides conditions of peace, security and prosperity to its legal residents”

In this direction, he continued, “our efforts are focused and despite the negative views of the other side we will put out all the opportunities to create conditions for direct negotiations on the basis of the framework agreed, starting from their breaking point in Crans Montana in 2017, which will take into account the negotiating acquis and European principles and values”.

The Deputy Government Spokesman said that President Christodoulidis will meet tomorrow with the Secretary General of the United Nations, in which he will reiterate his readiness to support any initiative that moves to find a solution on the Cyprus problem, through substantive negotiations.

Mr. Antoniou said that the negative attitude of the Turkish Cypriot leadership “does not allow us to be optimistic but at the same time it should not distract us from the effort”.

He said with the support of Greece and with the support of European partners, as well as other countries and institutions, “we are working to create the conditions to break the deadlock”.

“It was through our own actions that the Secretary General’s personal envoy was appointed for the Cyprus issue. We support the good services of the Secretary General, we invest in his campaign, and we are ready for the next step, as long as he serves approaches aimed at solving a problem Cyprus and not on the spread of the prospect for a reunified Cyprus. . This is unacceptable,” he said.

“We are never going to accept the current situation and we certainly cannot accept the two-state solution,” said Mr. Antoniou.

Speaking of the fallen, the executed and the missing of the Turkish attack, Mr. Antoniou said that Neo Chorio Kythreas may retain the sad privilege of suffering from invasion and occupation of Turkey considering the population ratio. “Sixty-six of the townspeople, men and women, most of them old, were murdered in cold blood, another eight fell on the battlefield, and a few years later, a man- dead foot in the line of duty. A number of them are still missing,” he said.

Mr. Antoniou said that the names of those who fell, those who were murdered in cold blood and those who were lost, are indelibly engraved on the pages of history, on the graves, monuments, pillars and heroes, which are the basis of the struggle for freedom, pointing out that “it is our duty towards, but especially towards the new generation, to try to give better days to the our country”.
