Okazaki Police Station, Aichi Prefecture (Mainichi Shimbun)
Overseas Network, December 13th According to Japan’s “Mainichi Shimbun” 13 report, an unemployed man detained by the police in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, died recently in a detention center. It was revealed that he had been raped by several policemen prior to his death.
Relevant sources said that camera footage in the detention center showed several officers from Okazaki Police Station in Aichi Prefecture beating the man who was lying on the ground. The man was then transferred to a protection room and tied up with handcuffs, ropes and other devices. The man had been detained for more than 100 hours and the normal procedure for extending his detention was not in place. The Japanese Penal Containment Facilities Law stipulates that the time a suspect is held in a detention facility is within 72 hours, and special procedures must be handled for any 48-hour extension.
The cause of death of the deceased was found to be kidney failure, he had been tied up for a long time, suffered from pre-existing illnesses and was not provided with medication. In order to prevent suspects from harming themselves, Japan’s Criminal Containment Law permits the police to use devices that restrict personal freedom, but does not stipulate the time to use ropes and handcuffs for arrest.(Wang Shanning, overseas network)
