LEUNA – Loud bang and clouds of smoke; An explosion occurred on Monday morning in Germany’s largest closed chemical park in Leuna (Saalekreis).
According to the operating company Infraleuna, the incident happened at Linde Gas, a manufacturer of technical gases. According to initial findings, a hydrogen tank loaded on a truck trailer exploded. According to current information, no one was injured in the parking lot incident.
The smoke was caused by the wheels of the truck catching fire.
Residents and workers heard the explosion around 8am and called the fire brigade. “There was a deafening bang,” one woman told a German newspaper.
The dark mist above the chemical park quickly cleared again.
