A huge country asked to join NATO. The Kremlin went berserk – 2024-04-18 17:38:32

One of the largest countries in the world has asked to join NATO.

Argentina has requested to become a global partner of the Alliance.

This was announced by the Minister of Defense of the country Louis Petrie in X after a meeting with the Deputy Secretary General of NATO in Brussels.

“We will continue to work to restore ties that will allow us to modernize and train our forces in accordance with NATO standards,” Petrie said in a statement.

Argentina is currently one of the US’s main non-NATO allies.

Within the framework of the partnership with NATO, the countries can exchange ideas, receive advice on strengthening defense institutions, participate in exercises and cooperate on scientific projects.

The North Atlantic Alliance currently consists of 32 countries, but in addition, NATO cooperates with a number of countries around the world.

So far, the only Latin American country with NATO global partner status is Colombia (as of 2018). Other global partners of NATO are Afghanistan, Australia, Iraq, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, New Zealand, Pakistan.

After news of Argentina’s intentions emerged, there was a reaction from Moscow. Argentina’s request for cooperation with NATO as a global partner is regrettable and will not contribute to anyone’s security, said Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Ryabkov, quoted by TASS.

Russia calls on the countries to make a reasonable assessment of what NATO is and where it is pushing the international community, he added.
