“A House of Remembrance Proposed for Kleve’s Synagogenplatz”

A group of citizens wants to build a house of remembrance on Synagogenplatz near Schwanenburg. The city would leave the property to a foundation for a symbolic euro per year. The binding declaration of intent is valid for five years. As reported, a trust foundation should initially raise at least 80 percent of the construction costs through binding funding commitments or capital from private individuals and subsidies. Then it could be converted into a legally responsible community foundation that would assume the costs for the maintenance and operation of the building (announced as a “light icon”).
