American actor Edward Norton has given disturbing information. He discovered he was related to a historically significant person, CNN reports.
The Oscar-nominated actor has learned that he is related to Pocahontas, the daughter of a 17th-century Indian leader.
Pocahontas turns out to be her 12th great-grandmother.
The actor learned about his relative while participating in the “Finding Your Roots” program. In the documentary program, his guests have the opportunity to learn about their family tree or find out who their ancestors are.
Historian and host Henry Louis Gates Jr. has confirmed the actor is related to the historical figure. It turns out the family had suspected this for years, but hadn’t had any confirmation of the rumours.
The actor’s great-grandmother in the 12th grade was Pocahontas and grandfather was John Rolfe.
According to the broadcaster, the couple married on April 5, 1614 in Jamestown, Virginia. Records reveal that Pocahontas died three years later in Gravesend, England, while Rolfe died around 1622.
