A helicopter has crashed near a kindergarten in the Kyiv suburb of Brovary. There are supposed to be injured and dead on the spot.
On Wednesday morning, several media outlets, including the Reuters news agency, reported that a helicopter had crashed near a kindergarten and an apartment block in Brovary, Ukraine.
The local police chief confirms, according to Kyiv Postthat a helicopter crashed at the kindergarten.
There were children and staff in the kindergarten at the time of the incident, writes Governor Oleksij Kuleba of the Kyiv region on the messaging service Telegram.
Everyone is said to have been evacuated, but the governor states that there are injured or dead people on the spot.
Reuters writes that the national police chief states that at least 16 people have died.
The police chief also states that the country’s interior minister will be among the dead, according to Reuters.
The Kyiv Post cites local police as saying that two pilots are dead and that an unknown number of children are injured.
Ukrainian Euromaidan Press writes that at least five people have been injured in connection with the incident and refers to statements from local police.
It is currently unclear what caused the crash and who the helicopter belonged to.
A statement from President Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s deputy chief of staff initially stated that there was talk of “an aircraft having crashed into a social infrastructure facility”.
