A heavy downpour really surprised visitors of the Full Color Festival in Emmen on Sunday afternoon. There was even a moment of panic. Despite the threat of dark clouds, things seemed to be going well, until all hell broke loose.
Hundreds of visitors on the Raadhuisplein tried to find a safe place. But because the mall was closed, only the entrance to the parking garage and the canopy of the entrance to Wildlands offered protection. Due to long lines to enter the parking garage, quite a few people still got soaking wet.
A little screaming here and there
Here and there some screams were heard, also because of the driving rain and the strong wind. Exhibitors tried with all their might to protect their merchandise. The downpours lasted for fifteen minutes.
According to organizer Frans van Schie – as far as he could determine just after the rain – no accidents happened. The sun soon came out again, but a large part of the visitors had already packed their bags by then. The organization wondered if he still wanted to continue, but here and there music was already sounding. ,,We will continue according to the original plan, until six thirty tonight”, said Van Schie. Most market traders had already disappeared by then.
Batik dresses and roti with chicken
Until the outbreak of the storm, there seemed to be no blemish in the air. Tropical sounds on two stages, roti with chicken, hair braids with beads, children’s theatre, batik dresses, Support Tibet; they are the usual ingredients of the festival, held for the 27th time this year.
