GOTHENBURG. Elin Rubensson, 30, was forced to step off injured in the Champions League playoff against Twente.

It risks becoming a nightmare both for the national team in the Nations League and Häcken in the hunt for gold in the Allsvenskan.

At a 0–1 deficit, in the CL playoff against Twente, Elin Rubensson pulled in a finish from distance, high over at the end of the first half.

But at the moment of the shot, the 30-year-old injured her left thigh/groin, was laid up for a long time before limping off. Rubensson was unable to continue the match and was tightly wrapped around the upper part of his left thigh.

An injury absence in the summer of World Cup star and key player Elin Rubensson is a heavy blow both for national team captain Peter Gerhardsson and the women’s national team, which in just over two weeks will face Switzerland at home in the Nations League, and for BK Häcken.

The Gothenburg team is chasing both the SM gold in the Allsvenskan in a tough battle with Hammarby and Linköping – and a place in the Champions League’s group stage.

The match against Twente is currently 2-2.
