The Ministry of Health has promised itIsraelThe formation of an investigative commission after it was discovered that a woman who underwent an artificial insemination process was carrying a fetus that did not have genetics.
The Israeli Ministry of Health confirmed that it received a report from Assuta Rishon LeZion Medical Center after it revealed a genetic test of a woman who was carrying a fetus genetically incompatible with her and her partner.
“The Ministry of Health was immediately informed of the incident,” Assuta Medical Center quoted in a statement.
The hospital added that all cases conducted in the relevant laboratory were closely examined to determine the biological parents of the fetus.
Similar incidents have occurred before, despite their extreme rarity. In November 2021, the Los Angeles Times reported that a woman had given birth to her second child, only to discover weeks later that the girl was not genetically related.
The American newspaper pointed out that the girl does not look like any of her parents after her birth in 2019, as it was found after a DNA test weeks after birth that the girl was not related to any of the parents.
