The health platform ‘Salvemos o Hospital da Costa’ has denounced that “a large number” of women from the A Mariña region are being referred to the Lucus Augusti Hospital (HULA) in the Portuguese capital for complementary tests such as ultrasounds when they Mammograms of breast cancer screening “are questionable or suspicious.”
In a statement, the platform assures that, up to now, this type of complementary tests were carried out at the A Mariña Hospital, for which they consider the fact that patients are referred to Lugo “yet another attack on the public health of the region and the Mariñan women “.
The coorindaora of the group, Montse Porteiro, maintains that the radiology service of the Mariña regional hospital “has been at half gas for a long time” since, she says, two radiology places are pending coverage.
Porteiro relates this situation, to which he adds the “de facto transfer of another physician”, with the “disastrous decision to transfer the performance of these complementary tests to the HULA, which multiply the degree of suffering and fear of women who need to confirm whether have cancer or not. ”
