A hall with waste is burning in Kyje, Prague, and the fire is already under control

In U Technoplynu Street on the border of Prague’s Kyjí and Malešice, a waste hall has been burning since Saturday morning.

Firefighters set out for the fire shortly before noon, and after about four and a half hours they managed to bring the flames under control. However, the fire will continue at least until the evening, said Kateřina Suchánská, a spokeswoman for the Prague fire brigade.

No one was in the hall affected by the fire, one of the intervening firefighters suffered minor injuries during the attack. Smoke from the fire was seen from a number of places in the capital.

The burning hall measuring 20 by 30 meters is filled with waste over its entire area. “The fire is no longer spreading, we have enough strength and resources on the spot, so we have the fire under control,” firefighters announced on Twitter around 4:30 p.m. At present, they continue to extinguish hidden outbreaks. Firefighters must dig through the burning waste with a loader to reach the hidden hearths.

Due to the high number of intervening volunteer and professional units, first the second and later the third stage of the fire alarm was announced. The intervention of firefighters was complicated by the low pressure in the hydrant network and today’s warm weather, due to which they have to take turns during extinguishing.

There is also a fire service from Petřiny at the site of the fire, which measures the concentration of flue gases in the air. However, the measured values of the pollutant were below the limit. Due to the possible influence of the water used for extinguishing, a chemical laboratory from Kamenice was also called to the site.
