In Offenbach, a new gastro and shopping guide aims to attract people to the city center.
Felix Schwenke (SPD) is convinced: “I’ll bet that no one has left money in any of the shops listed here.” With 64 in number, Offenbach’s mayor and head of cultural affairs is probably right. We’re talking about the city’s freshly published gastro and shopping guide.
On 43 pages, restaurants, bars, craft shops, pharmacies, boutiques, bookstores, flower shops, roasters and much more are presented in magazine style. 75,000 copies have been produced for almost 100,000 euros and are to be distributed not only in the city but also in the whole district in order to lure people to Offenbach – a further component of the future concept for the inner city.
Vouchers online soon
All 64 shops belong to the “Offenbach’s Big Heart” voucher network. “There are some newcomers,” says OB Schwenke happily. After the voucher campaign, many would have noticed that it was worth participating. After returning from lockdown, there was special support for the catering and retail sectors as part of the Offenbach economic and aid package. When purchasing a certain amount in participating shops of the voucher association, you received a cashback that could be redeemed in the same shops – with the exception of Galeria Kaufhof – until September 30th.
The vouchers were available as plastic cards and the data on the purchases were recorded digitally after the receipts were presented. “We used the campaign to modernize,” said Schwenke. Up until now, the Offenbach vouchers were only available in paper form and are currently still available for purchase in the information center in Salzgäßchen. Soon the vouchers will also be available online. “We tried to expand the voucher network even further,” explained Schwenke. However, some have shown no interest because their business is also doing that. For others, the technical equipment was too complex to ultimately redeem the vouchers. Maybe, so the OB hopes, many would be annoyed in retrospect not to be in the magazine. In any case, there is always the possibility of being included in the voucher network.
“Offenbach is the most underrated city in the Rhine-Main area,” says Stefan Bäcker, managing director of the M. Schneider fashion house. Becker reports that the voucher campaign was already very well received by his customers. He expects the same from the shopping guide.
