Suara.com – Everyone is different, even within 0.1 percent genetic they. This is what determines all differences, from perspective to immunity to a disease, including Covid-19.
The more that is known about this particular gene, the more scientists can make a drug that mimics the genetic difference into something that can save lives.
Departing from this idea, a group researcher led by immunologist Evangelos Andreakos of the Athens Academy is looking for candidates for its studies to search for people who are immune to the infection SARS-CoV-2.
“The spread of SARS-CoV-2 in the community on a global scale has provided another picture of the clinical variability between individuals in the course of infection, from mildly symptomatic to life-threatening,” Andreakos said. Science Alert.

He continued, “Our understanding of the pathophysiology of Covid-19 has progressed rapidly since the disease was first recognized in December 2019, but we still know very little about the human genetic and immunological basis of the disease. resistance innate to SARS-CoV-2.
Pathophysiology is the study of how a disease affects body systems.
“Even though we don’t have much information about this innate resistance, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.”
Researchers noted, sometimes there are cases where most families are infected with Covid-19, but somehow there are members who can avoid this disease.
There has been some serious research on this subject, but the results reveal only minor differences. For example, there was a report last year that some blood types (especially group O) appear to show little resistance to severe COVID-19.

Feeling not enough, researchers are trying to find out the specific gene that is immune to Covid-19.
“We propose a strategy to identify, recruit, and genetically analyze people who are naturally resistant to SARS-CoV-2 infection,” the research team wrote.
The plan, they will focus on contact between families, then consider people who have been exposed to Covid-19 without personal protective equipment.
Then they will do PCR and blood tests which should come back negative within four weeks of exposure.
“We have enrolled more than 400 people who meet the criteria for inclusion in the special resistance study cohort. Collaborative enrollment of study participants continues, and subjects from around the world are welcome,” they said.
