10 individuals suspected of pimping are accused of picking up vulnerable girls using the “loverboy” method.
On their account, they got so rich in the last two years, that with the money earned from exploiting the victims, they built a complex of blocks in Sector 5 of the Capital. DIICOT prosecutors have detained seven of them so far, but the leaders of the group fled.
The 10 allegedly joined the criminal group in 2020, prosecutors say. Although many had concubinage relationships in the country, they allegedly recruited at least 10 young women using the loverboy method, forcing them to practice prostitution in countries such as Cyprus, Sweden, the Netherlands or Belgium. And, after the girls became attached to them, they threatened them with separation, according to the investigators.
A single girl, caught red-handed by the police while returning to the country with the sums of money she was going to give to pimps, would have obtained over 100 thousand euros from prostitution in half a year.
In total, the pimps would have accumulated more than 250 thousand euros. But this is the money that could be traced by the prosecutors because it was sent through online transfers. In reality, the sums obtained by the members of the group would be much higher, considering that a good part of the winnings were brought into the country in cash.
On their social media accounts, the ten displayed an opulent lifestyle by posting videos showing off their money or cars. In addition, in only two years, they managed to build a complex of blocks, in Sector 5 of the Capital.
Seven of the suspects have been detained by DIICOT prosecutors, but the leaders of the group have not been found so far, and prosecutors are considering seeking their remand in absentia.
