Women who have experienced domestic violence during the first two waves of the coronavirus pandemic are at increased risk of infection.
British researchers from the Universities of Birmingham and Warwick found that women who suffered domestic violence during the first two waves of the coronavirus pandemic have an increased risk of infection. The corresponding article of scientists was published in the journal BMC Medicine.
The reason for this, according to scientists, was the restrictive measures that the authorities of the countries took to curb the spread of COVID-19. It is they, experts say, who have caused the so-called “shadow pandemic” of domestic violence.
Researchers studied the risk of contracting coronavirus in 10.4 thousand women who consulted doctors with beatings between January 31, 2020 and February 28, 2021.
As a result, they found out that such women have a significantly higher risk of contracting coronavirus.
In addition, the situation is aggravated by concomitant diseases. Therefore, scientists are calling for increased vaccination in this particular group of the population.
We recall that it was previously reported that Coronavirus pandemic triggered the biggest loss of life in Europe, USA and Chile since World War II.
