Renowned archaeologist Octavian Liviu Șovan passed away. The tragic announcement was made by the County Museum of History in Botosani.
Octavian Liviu Șovan graduated from the Faculty of History of the University „Al. I. Cuza “from Iași, being known to the national and international scientific world through archaeological research from several sites, but especially through large-scale excavations, carried out in the Sântana de Mureș – Chernjachov necropolis from Mihălășeni, Botoșani County.
Şovan demonstrated a special potential for interdisciplinary scientific research, through the full, exhaustive use of the 520 tombs, with the impressive archaeological inventory highlighted by the accuracy and thoroughness of the investigations.
In addition to the reference work “Sântana de Mureș – Chernjachov Necropolis from Mihălășeni”, Octavian Liviu Şovan left an enormous amount of information, materialized in a volume of over 500 pages on which he worked his entire career – “Archaeological Repertory of Botoșani County “.
