A Graz Musician Goes on a Break from Social Media, Finding Instagram Too Much of a Circus: Small Newspaper

The Graz singer/songwriter Vida Noa began her Monday with an emotional farewell speech to her social media activities – and that just on Facebook in a very personal video, with which she probably speaks from the heart of many. Because she is always asked when new music comes from her, she chose this way for her message to her fans. “I love making music and I’m currently making more music than ever,” she says, among other things, but she is currently not ready to release new songs, yes, it’s unclear how things are with the Vida project Noa go on, says Petra Stambolija, her real name.

The reason for the break: In today’s music business, there is a downside to the coin that the young artist can’t do anything with: she is tired of having to market herself and her music on social media with such enormous effort as a product. She doesn’t want to jump on every TikTok trend, not always every boom, doesn’t want to follow the curse of having to go viral: “On Instagram I feel like I’m in a circus. Everyone tries to be louder, faster, to stay relevant and to feed the algorithm.” She admires everyone who makes this effort and takes her hat off to them: “But I can’t do it, it makes me so tired!” That’s why the musician no longer exposes herself to the fight for streams and attention. She wants to make music from the heart and not work as a marketing manager and social media content creator. She now uses Facebook to talk about the things that concern her – and that is currently “real life” and meeting “real people”.

For ten years she has been working on her career as a musician. She released her first album in 2019 and then also played at the Donauninselfest or the Styrian Sounds. In October 2018, with a bachelor’s degree in architecture in her pocket as a stage at the end of her education, she took a year off to concentrate fully on music. The result was the album full of the finest singer-songwriter craftsmanship, reported the Kleine Zeitung in 2019. Her joint appearance with Paenda and KTEE on the single “Boys 4 Breakfast” also caused a stir with this great video:
