A school promotion trip that was supposed to be a moment of joy and learning ended in tragedy this Saturday in Moyobamba, San Martín region, when an interprovincial bus got lost and fell into a ravine. The incident left 11 people dead, including a two-year-old child, and more than 30 injured, some in critical condition.
The accident occurred in the El Triunfo hamlet, Jepelacio district. The unit, from the Móvil Bus company, transported 58 passengers, including fifth-year high school students from the IE San Jacinto de Sechura and La Salle de Piura schools, accompanied by their teachers. According to preliminary information, the vehicle would have lost control for reasons that are still the subject of investigation.

So far, authorities have identified 10 of the 11 deceased people. Among them are students, adult companions and a Colombian citizen yet to be identified.

Injuries and medical care
The accident left more than 30 injured, who were taken to different health centers. The Moyobamba Hospital received 17 injured people, of which two are in the operating room and four will be transferred to the Rioja Hospital due to the severity of their injuries. Other patients were treated at the Jerillo Health Center and the EsSalud Hospital in the region.

Given the high demand for blood, the Moyobamba Hospital launched a donation campaign to care for the most critical patients. Eduardo Alcántara, a doctor at the hospital, explained that he is coordinating with the regional blood bank to guarantee supply, while the first donors have already begun to arrive.
“We need voluntary donors to strengthen the blood bank and save lives. We urgently call on the population to come and collaborate with this emergency,” said Alcántara.
