With a general meeting, an annual joint photo and the first attempts of your own The new work was started on July 27 by the Daile Theater. On August 3, it will open a curtain for the audience with a premiere in Daile Garden – a concert “Canon of Daile. Dreģe. Cīrulis ”, in which the outstanding actress Olga Dreģe will read the poetry of Broņislava Martuževa, but pianist Edgars Cīrulis will play the music of Imants Kalniņš. The musical evening will introduce a series of seven concerts “Canon of Dailes”, where there will be a meeting with other great actors of this theater. In parallel with the concerts, the theater in the Great Hall will also start showing new productions, which were made last season, but due to the pandemic, it did not meet the audience. –
The feelings of the artists at the beginning of the new act of work are different in the gradation of emotions. The audience’s favorite actress Olga Dreģe will be the first to introduce the concert cycle “Dailes kanons” dedicated to the centenary of the theater. She admits that the season starts with great joy, and this is also due to the very recent meetings with people at the festivals in Valmiera, Gulbene and other cities. The actress took part in an artists’ fair there, which also offered several books written about her.
“I am overwhelmed by the attitude of the people and the audience. I met everyone again, I received so many compliments, so many accolades, so many good wishes for me to live until 101! And I gifted everyone with my books, my records and wishes. And I was very, very pleased about this time. Since I started the season with great pleasure, ”says the actress.
Olga Dreģe is very pleased that Broņislava Martuževa’s poetry will be able to speak in the concert cycle “Canon of Dailes”. In this connection, this summer she has memorized 40 new poems, which will be performed in a concert and intertwined with the music of Imants Kalniņš, which will be played by pianist Edgars Cīrulis.
Olga Dreģe and Martuževa are countrymen, in a sense also relatives of the spirit. The actress explains: “Her wisdom, her view of the world, from the naive girl to the refugees, to the prison, to the cameras and then the return”. Her confidence, her humor, her serpentity, her vitality – it’s all extremely close to me. And I also see similarities with myself in many places, because we have a lot in common. We come from the countryside, we have faith, we have wartime scars, we have difficulties, we have hunger, we have musicality. This is extremely important to me!
May God give me the health to be able to endure all this, and maybe then I will put some fat point for my creative activity, but I really want to agree Martuževa’s poetry again. ”
The actress sees the time of the pandemic as a time of sifting people, which sifts us in everything – in terms of age, education, mind and human relations.
In a sense, the thoughts of actor Artūrs Skrastiņš also echo with Olga Dreģe’s vision. He emphasizes that he does not want to pretend and say that the season starts with a lot of work, because in fact, after working for so long without spectators, the actors start to lose motivation: I am, in fact, waiting for the performances that were created without the audience and which we now have the chance to pass on to the audience, and it will be some litmus test for me, whether its motivation will arise or it will have to be re-constructed in some way. This time raises very big questions. As one doctor said, it also has a biochemical basis, because
we have been living without adrenaline, without energy exchange, without satisfaction, without applause, which is a very important part of our profession.
And we don’t yet know what biochemical consequences it will have on the body. ”

Starting from August 3, the new productions created last season, which have experienced only the so-called internal premieres, will start their journey to the audience one after another. The series of new productions will be introduced by Dmitry Petrenko’s production “Zemdegas”, followed by the tragic comedy “Consent” by Laura Groza, “Smile” directed by Viesturs Kairiss and four other performances created during the pandemic but not yet reaching the audience.
Viesturs Kairišs, the artistic director of Daile Theater, is a bit worried about how he will be able to restore the performances that have been staged for a long time, but in general his view of the new season is quite optimistic.
“We are all meeting here for the first time today, I think – everyone looks rested, healthier.
It seems to me that the emotional climate is very good, because we have an extremely rich season for the whole team. The only worry is that the season will not end again, but this time it will be over, ”emphasizes Kairišs.
Juris Žagars, the director of Daile Theater, points out that according to the information at his disposal, the vaccinated cultural groups will be able to continue working during the forecasted third wave of the pandemic, just as the theaters will be able to receive vaccinated spectators.
Daile Theater in general will be open, at least initially, only to vaccinated and ill spectators, because since the theater does not have a balcony, it would be very difficult to separate the streams if the performances were attended by the so-called mixed audience.

Director of Daile Theater Juris Žagars addresses the group at the general meeting.
When it comes to ticket sales – as Žagars puts it – you can’t beat your hands in joy, but you don’t have to panic either: “I will say, buy well for this situation. Buy a little better than we thought. Of course, at the moment there is an extremely huge offer of cultural events for the directly vaccinated public, considering that only 40% of vaccinated people in Latvia, of course, this size of the public may not be enough to fill all the medicines that have now opened.
But in any case, ticket sales are currently at the projected level of revenue, and I don’t see such a big threat yet. “
The Daile Theater will perform only in the Great Hall, as the Small Hall will be rebuilt in connection with the reconstruction of the entire building. According to the most optimistic forecasts, the whole reconstruction could be completed next autumn.
