It is common that some super sports or limited editions of various models are parked under a tarpaulin in the garage instead of running rampant on circuits and circuits. For the Volkswagen Golf R32, this fact is a rare phenomenon.
The Volkswagen Golf R32 celebrated its twentieth birthday last year. Under the hood of the then most powerful Golf was an atmospheric six-cylinder VR6 with a volume of 3.2 liters and an output of 177 kW (241 hp) with a torque value of 320 Nm. Above all, it became the first model to offer a six-speed DSG automatic transmission.
Now, more than twenty years later, you’re browsing through the used car listings and wondering if this iconic vehicle would fit in your garage. Don’t be surprised, the prices of four-wheel drive Golf R32 range from 500,000 crowns and up to 900,000 crowns in rare cases. However, in New York a few weeks ago, one of the specimens was sold for an incredible 104 thousand dollars (2.3 million crowns)!
This piece is from 2004 in the Golf R32’s signature Deep Blue pearl color, which perfectly matches the blue brake calipers. The six-cylinder is not combined with the aforementioned DSG gearbox, but with a six-speed manual and 4Motion all-wheel drive.
Equipment includes black leather interior, 18-inch Aristo wheels shod with 225/40 Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, automatic air conditioning, Monsoon audio system with cassette and CD player or ceramic paint protection applied to the car in 2021.
A year later, the car underwent pre-sale service in New York, which included replacing the fuel pump and gaskets. The original sticker from the seller points to the sale price of the new car, which at the time was 30.6 thousand dollars, which according to the exchange rate of the US dollar in 2004 meant approximately 790 thousand crowns.
The most interesting thing is that this particular Golf R32 only had 156 kilometers on it! The resulting sales price is no longer surprising. Despite the very low mileage, the car had minor defects in the form of a fogged headlight and a smudge on the roof panel on the passenger side. The dealer supplied the car with a new pair of headlights and a replacement grille.
