Traveling to the Parc des Princes for this 38e day of Ligue 1, FC Metz plays its survival in the elite. And Frédéric Antonetti’s players may be able to take advantage of Parisian absences to obtain a result.
Objective survival! Saturday evening, FC Metz travels to the Parc des Princes to face Paris Saint-Germain. But the Lorraine will especially play their future in Ligue 1! Currently 18e and play-offs, tied on points with Saint-Étienne (19e), the Messins will have to do better than the Greens or obtain an identical result to keep this place and face the winner of the Ligue 2 play-offs (Auxerre or Sochaux) on May 26 and 29. A scenario still unimaginable three weeks ago when the Grenats occupied last place and were six lengths behind ASSE. But after a draw in Montpellier which they were very close to winning since they were leading 2-0 in the 80e minute, the Messins won against Lyon (3-2) and Angers (1-0).
Four absences from Paris!
Two victories that gave hope to an entire club. But this time, it will take a miracle for Frédéric Antonetti’s players to bring back at least one point from the capital. Especially since it will be a party at the Parc des Princes, if the supporters wish, since former glories will be present to celebrate and 10e title of French club champion. Could FC Metz play spoilsport? The Lorraine club can, in any case, count on a diminished Parisian group with the absences of Julian Draxler, Mauro Icardi, Layvin Kurzawa and Leandro Paredes. It remains to be seen whether they will be able to take advantage of it.
