A gold digger discovers a pomegranate in a river in the Dordogne

Near Excideuil (Dordogne), a young man discovered a grenade in a stream while looking for gold with his father, Wednesday May 18, 2022. He immediately contacted the police, who secured the area, reports France Blue Perigord.

The young man immediately understood that it was a grenade. “I flipped it over just to see because there was a lot of compression on it, and put it back down”he explained to our colleagues.

Deminers dispatched to the scene

While the mayor of the town considers this find incomprehensible, the young miner is certain that the machine dates from the Second World War. “I’m interested in history and I’ve often heard old people tell me that there were no fights here, but that there were quite a few resistance fighters in the region. And as soon as the Germans moved, they threw down a lot of weapons”he explained.

After this unprecedented discovery, an order was issued to prohibit any access to the area. A Bordeaux demining team was contacted.
