The hot weather in front of the packed grandstand at the Municipal Stadium in Chrudim did not favor quality football full of chances, especially in the beginning. Both teams tried in the beginning not to make an unnecessary mistake that could cost them a conceded goal. And because of that, we can highlight Samuel Šimek’s two shots from the first half-hour or attempts by the active Roman Potočný, who only fired into the arms of the prepared goalkeeper Jáchym Šerák.
When the two units already saw each other in the cabin, a shock came. Shortly before the end of regular playing time in the first half, Chrudim captain Jan Řezníček found the ball in the penalty area and hit the far post with a technical shot.

The home team could have increased the halftime lead several more times after the break, Samuel Šimek and Daniel Kosek again shot interestingly from the left side, but goalkeeper Sváček was waiting for their shots. In the end, the duel had a completely different hero. Goalkeeper Jáchy Šerák was first helped by a crossbar when Martin Nové shot, but in the set-up, the Chrudim goalkeeper caught Roman Potočné’s penalty!
Thanks to this intervention, Chrudim beat Zbrojovka Brno 1:0 and claimed their second home victory with zero behind!
Home coach Jindřich Tichai did not hide his enthusiasm after the match: “It was a terribly hectic match. I have to thank the players for how they handled it physically, because we went into the match not to let Brno play. We were doing well for a long time, but around the 60th minute, cramps started to come and it showed a little. Then Brno pushed us, but apart from the penalty, they didn’t create a clear chance. We should have added a second goal, there were chances, but they didn’t finish. A stone fell from our hearts. We were better and more dangerous in the first half, it was decided that we probably wanted more.”
