A giraffe died in the Riga Zoo; the fault could be a bad tooth

Kims, the male giraffe who lives there, died in the Riga Zoo, reports LTV “Ceturtā studija”.

An autopsy performed on the giraffe revealed that the giraffe had a decayed tooth and inflammation of the digestive system.

Riga Zoo also shared good news, which is that three-year-old female giraffe Vakilia could be joined by a new rider in the spring.

Information on the Riga Zoo website claims that giraffes are found in Africa south of the Sahara Desert. There are currently around 100,000 giraffes in the wild, but their numbers are declining. Giraffes have already disappeared in almost all of West Africa. In South Africa, where giraffes had already disappeared, they were reintroduced to game reserves. There are nine subspecies of giraffes. The Riga Zoo is home to Rothschild’s giraffes, which occur naturally in Uganda and northern and central Kenya.
