Honda to recall two million vehicles in North America due to risk of accident. The gigantic recall will affect models manufactured from 2022 to 2025 in the United States, Canada and Mexico, informa Reuters.

The problem is in the steering system. According to a report of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrationa small spring inside the gear may be poorly manufactured, which would cause excessive internal friction, stiffness in the steering wheel when maneuvering, and strange noises.
“The spring preload of the worm gear was adjusted to an inappropriate level, which increased the sliding force between the components. As a result of the reduction in the thickness of the grease film and the increase in the sliding force, the friction between the worm wheel and the worm gear increases. “They can increase the effort and difficulty when driving, increasing the risk of suffering an accident or injury.”

The solution that Honda proposes is replace the faulty spring with an improved one and add grease to the components. The brand will notify owners of affected vehicles starting in mid-November 2024 so that they can take their cars to dealerships and have the part replaced, which in theory should be free of charge.
