A giant photovoltaic boom. The limit of one million micro-installations is broken

The limit of one million micro-installations was exceeded in March – results from the latest data summarizing the first quarter in photovoltaics, published on Friday by the Polish Society for the Transmission and Distribution of Electricity.

The total power of micro-installations in Poland is already 7.3 gigawatts. “In the last few years, we have seen a dynamic increase in the number and capacity of micro-installations connected to distribution grids, many times exceeding the assumed forecasts. Most of them are photovoltaic (PV) installations, mostly prosumer micro-installations, connected to the DSO network on the basis of the notification” – comments PTPiREE.

As the organization calculates, in 2021 almost 400,000 people were joined. new micro-installations, which translated into 3 GW of capacity. At the end of last year, the total installed capacity was over 6 GW.

The boom also continued in the first quarter of this year, when almost 152.8 thousand people were connected. new micro-installations. For comparison: in the first quarter of last year it was 64 thousand. micro-installations.

Poles wanted to make it before the changes

Not without significance for such a great interest in photovoltaics in recent months must be the fact that since April, the system of billing for electricity produced at home has changed.

According to the new rules, the generated energy will have to be used up immediately, and resell the surplus at market price. The problem is that during the day its price is more than half lower than at night and in the evening, when you will have to buy it back, because photovoltaic panels without the sun will not produce energy. This means that your return on investment will be significantly extended.

Aware of this, Poles in the second half of last year, when it was already known that the government would introduce changes, began to install photovoltaics in large numbers. Yes, to “catch” on the current accounting rules. For who made it before the end of March this year, will be billed using the current discount system and will retain its rights for another 15 years.

The government gives funding

On April 15, the call for applications for the next edition of the “My Electricity” program for co-financing photovoltaic micro-installations started. This time, the government will pay extra not only to the photovoltaics itself. The money will also be available for the purchase of heat and energy storage, as well as for intelligent energy management systems. Whoever decides to have a full set can count on over 20,000. zlotys.
