A. Georgiadis: What does he say about the conditions at the “Elena” maternity hospital – 2024-08-09 22:05:20

Within August, all the coolers of the “Elena” maternity hospital will be replaced, as pointed out in a tweet by the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, who states that the problem arose when they were taken out of service, as pathogenic organisms and a concentration of heavy metals were detected in them beyond the permissible limit.

Specifically, in his post, A. Georgiadis states:

“This morning, following my instructions, the General Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Mr. Vildiridou, visited the “Elena Venizelou” Hospital for an inspection. The facts are as follows:

• Regarding the problem of drinking water coolers of the Hospital, it was found that pathogenic organisms were present in some of them, as well as a concentration of heavy metals beyond the permitted limit. Following the decision of the Hospital Administration, all coolers were shut down in order to ensure the health of patients, visitors, and nursing staff.

Subsequently, the Hospital conducted a market survey and is in the process of replacing all the Hospital’s coolers with new ones, which is expected to be completed within August of this year. Meanwhile, as of today, bottled water is available free of charge to all employees and visitors in Hospital areas who wish it, until the replacement of coolers.

• Regarding the problems identified in a small part of the Hospital in relation to air conditioning (in twenty-five (25) fun coil units, which were operating but with reduced efficiency), by the end of August this year twenty-five (25) new fun coil units will have been installed, while within September another forty (40) pending units will be installed by open tender.

Also, a portable cooling unit was already installed in the reception area of the Hospital, until the final installation of a floor cooling unit (wardrobe type).

• No episode of fainting has been described and recorded by the nursing service, except for one related to a history of Hypotension (there are relevant supporting documents from the nursing service)’.
