You have been touring all over France for over a year and the public is always waiting for you in large numbers. What should we expect from this tour?
There are like two parts to our show. We play almost all the songs on the album. The Waythe ones that the audience knows by heart. The second part of the show includes songs from other albums that are also popular. A concert, at least the ones we do now, is mainly about fun for and with the fans. We put on all our favorite songs!
How are you experiencing this excitement surrounding your return?
It’s something very strong, we know much more than before what it’s worth. At the time, we were young, we found it almost normal when it’s not at all! We have this immense chance to continue to be relevant to the public and to have a very solid fanbase. Over time we realized that it was extremely rare. There are kids, teenagers, young adults and older people at our concerts, it’s very moving.
How do you explain this renewal of generations?
Twenty years ago, we mainly reached teenagers who are today’s adults and make their child(ren) listen to our music. I can understand that a teenager appreciates Last Dance Or The Waywhat I find crazier is the fifty-year-old who is now hooked on our songs…
…but you play rock when today young people prefer techno or rap?
Rock is slowly coming back, we hear more guitar sounds or rock in urban music. This hybrid side helps and I think a generation is also discovering the energy that a live rock concert provides, unlike other styles and it pleases.
Are you more serene as an artist today?
I feel 1000 times better. When you experience these emotions when you are young, you are lost. Now, we appreciate more easily everything that happens. When it exploded, it was a childhood dream, a little more difficult to manage.
Is this a farewell tour or an anniversary and we’ll see you in ten years?
When we were suggested to do a reissue of this album, the idea was to look for unreleased material for the fans, build a beautiful object and a unique date to celebrate this anniversary. I was ready to move on but the scale of this return was totally unexpected, it shook up our plans. Now, we are not going to do a reissue for each album.
You have also collaborated on pieces with young artists, why this association?
It was super interesting to share songs with singers who are fans of them. Cœur de Pirate usually sings Last Dance during his concerts, it also gives a new lease of life. With these collaborations, the reissue makes much more sense.
What about your future album?
I’m a bit behind on writing (laughs). We’re going into the studio in September for the first tracks, with a first single to follow. It would be great to present this new album at our final concert of the 20th anniversary tour, on June 7, 2025 at the Accord Arena. I launched this challenge in an interview and it became a goal in the end!
