The lifeless body of the former deputy head of the Main Directorate for Combating Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Major General Vladimir Makarov, was found near Moscow, Reuters reported.
Law enforcement authorities reported that the general committed suicide.
The incident happened this morning in his villa in the Moscow village of Golikovo.
The 72-year-old general is a former deputy director of the Main Directorate for Combating Extremism at the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Directorate was established in 2008 with the aim of suppressing political protests in Russia.
In January, Makarov was dismissed from his position as deputy head of the Main Directorate for Combating Extremism of the Ministry of the Interior of Russia.
