The Principal Theater of Zaragoza will host this Monday ‘La jota y el cine en el siglo XX. From the silent film to ‘Alma Aragonesa’, a gathering that will address the relationship between the seventh art and this feature of the Community’s folklore that will begin at 20.00 and that will have the participation of Olga Aquilué, director of the D’Aragón group and editor of the CD ‘La Jota de Cine’.
As reported by the Zaragoza town hall, this event is part of the ‘Encuentros en la Jota’, an initiative of the Municipal Board of Performing Arts and the Image that aims to bring together, around a round table, a cycle of activities whose objective is the study of the jota, in particular, and of Aragonese folklore, in general, and of all initiatives aimed at promoting both knowledge.
As usual, this Monday’s activity will be directed and conducted by Manuela Adamo, dancer and choreographer, and by Javier Barreiro, professor of Spanish literature and author of an extensive work on popular culture.
Throughout her long career, Olga Aquilué has been present in various folkloric formations and as a dancer she formed a couple with Miguel Ángel Arregui, with whom she obtained different awards, the most relevant being the Ordinary Prize of the Official Contest of Jota de Zaragoza ( 1989) and in 1990 the Extraordinary Prize of the Official Jota de Zaragoza Contest in the dance modality.
Among other things, she is currently the director of the jota D’Aragón group and has devoted herself fully to teaching the jota, in addition to the creation and recovery of various dances, jotas and educational projects related to Aragonese folklore. During the event, the singer and dancer Azucena Salas Sancho, Pilar Martín and Sergio Sanz, will interpret some tunes.
