A gaping hole that has become a puzzle for users of the RD 03 in Lamentin

Appeared for 24 hours at the level of the Lézarde bridge, in the Soudon district, this hole appeared in the middle of the day, with a diameter large enough to completely prohibit traffic on a lane.

Subsidence of the roadway on Route Départementale 03 (Rivière Lézarde bridge) in the Durocher district in Lamentin. For safety reasons, the technical services of the CTM preferred to install diversions and prevent any passage on the structure, for an as yet undetermined period. This Tuesday morning (October 26, 2021), the technicians were already hard at work to understand what happened.

Among the first avenues put forward to explain this enormous hole: the underground water which sucked up the materials from the support of the bridge there. Surface water runoff certainly played a role as well.

It will be necessary to carry out studies to know which repair to carry out on the bridge. And it could take time without any date having been put forward by the road management services of the CTM.

The idea is nevertheless to start, as quickly as possible, with a re-establishment of traffic on one track, alternately, and also with a limitation of the tonnage on the structure. A temporary solution, because the RD 03 is a very busy route with nearly 10,000 users who use it every day. The proposed detour extends travel times by more than an hour.

A blow to economic activities

A little further, near an old discotheque, several companies are likely to find the time long. The manager of a restaurant confided to us that this new twist of fate was not going to help his affairs. None of his surrounding customers will take the tour, which is estimated to take almost an hour, at best. An incident that occurs while its activity is struggling to recover from the Covid crisis.

In addition, a resident tells us that his work, with a telephone operator, was 5m in normal times, now it is more than an hour. He does not yet know how he will have to organize himself for the races and for the management of the children.

Some of these residents have offered to meet and see how to set up a relay system on each side of the bridge … Solutions are therefore being studied.
