A game full of learning situations for the DFB women

On the way to the European Championship 2022, women’s football national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg has a lot of knowledge with the game against France. Your young team is on the right track despite the defeat.

Strasbourg (dpa) – The players on the pitch went as many ways as the national coach on the sidelines in their coaching zone.

Martina Voss-Tecklenburg gave the German national women’s soccer team loud instructions, praised, corrected and animated them during the international match in France. At least as far as the result is concerned, it was not crowned with success. The team, rejuvenated because of the many failures, was defeated by the French star ensemble 0: 1 (0: 1).

Willingness to run and fighting strength are there

“There was always something missing,” said Voss-Tecklenburg, without wanting or having to break the baton over the team. Because in terms of willingness to run and fighting strength, it was a very good performance by the DFB women at the end of a long season. What did not work, as so often in the recent past, was the precision, the consistency, the overview on the last pass in front of the opposing goal. A shortcoming, which almost runs like a red thread through all international matches this year.

Often times the wrong decisions were made. “Some things were done differently than we discussed. Some of the girls showed action after falling behind, which is not good for our game, ”said Voss-Tecklenburg (53) and classified this as a learning effect.

Young team with potential

Because with the 0: 1 in the 30th minute it was over until the break with the previously existing German glory. Suddenly there was a different body language, the interaction fell apart, the error rate was enormous. “You don’t need that. We have to stay with ourselves. You can fall behind in any game. But that shouldn’t disturb us, ”said Voss-Tecklenburg.

Nevertheless: This young team has enormous potential. Ultimately, seven or eight regular players were missing. Footballers like Lina Magull, Alexandra Popp, Sara Däbritz, Melanie Leupolz, Giulia Gwinn, Marina Hegering, Sara Doorsoun or Dzsenifer Marozsan, to name just a few, are still important, they can steer and tip a game with their experience. But they can also be canceled at a tournament like the European Championship next year. And then the successors can fall back on the experience they have gained in games like against France.

The game against Chile on June 15 (3 p.m. / ZDF) in Offenbach will challenge them again, then certainly in a different way than against the world-class opponent France. But the South Americans who are preparing for the Olympic soccer tournament also want to be played and the match won.
