A further eight companies join the climate alliance: Baden-Württemberg.de

The Climate Alliance Baden-Württemberg grows by eight more companies to 45 members. The companies make a contribution to climate protection – and show impressively that climate protection also brings economic advantages. Environment Minister Thekla Walker presented the accession documents.

More and more companies in the country are showing at the climate protection responsibility and join the Climate Alliance Baden-Württemberg at. Environment and Energy Minister Thekla Walker presented eight other companies with their certificates of accession at the climate evening on March 1, 2023 in the New Palace in Stuttgart. Since August 2020, 45 Baden-Württemberg companies have signed a climate protection agreement with the state.

Environment Minister Thekla Walker acknowledged the commitment of the companies: “By 2040, Baden-Württemberg wants to be climate-neutral. But I’ll say it quite frankly – we need you, the commercial companies, to do this. I am pleased that you have joined the Baden-Württemberg climate alliance and that we are working together towards a climate-neutral future. All of you here are leading the way.”

Climate protection offers economic advantages

The diversity of companies in the climate alliance also shows that companies can make a contribution to climate protection and thus be economically successful. Minister Thekla Walker said: “Climate protection clearly offers economic advantages. The current tense energy situation in particular shows that who is saving enormous costs Energy uses efficiently. And innovations, especially in climate technologies, give companies competitive advantages. This is impressively demonstrated by the Climate Alliance companies present here today.”

The main speaker at the climate evening – the climate and energy expert Rainer Baake – presented the study “Climate neutral Germany 2045” (PDF) and showed in scenarios how a transformation towards a climate-neutral economy is possible. After the musical interlude of the string quartet of the climate-neutral Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, its director Michael Korselt reported on the challenges and opportunities of a climate-neutral chamber orchestra.

The Climate Alliance of Baden-Württemberg

As one of Europe’s leading economic regions, Baden-Württemberg wants to play a pioneering role in climate protection and be climate-neutral by 2040. Industry is an important partner in this. The Baden-Württemberg Climate Alliance is managed by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for the Environment, Climate and the Energy Sector. With the alliance, the state and economy together want to make a sustainable contribution to the necessary change and make products “Made in Baden-Württemberg” a success on the domestic and international markets.

In the climate protection agreement signed by both partners, concrete measures are defined as to how the corporate climate protection goals are to be achieved. Country and company agree to support each other and work together. The aim of the climate protection agreement is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption in companies while becoming climate neutral. The following applies: avoidance of emissions before reduction and before compensation.
