Opposition leader Jair Lapid, center-head leader Yesh Atid (It’s the Future), is now trying to form a government. The minority government would depend on the support of four representatives of the United Arab candidate, Mansour Abbas. The new government in the 120-member Knesset would gain only one vote.

“I announce today that I intend to work hard to form a government of unity with Jair Lapid, chairman of Yesh Atid,” Bennet said in a televised statement. “Either there will be a fifth election or a government of unity,” added the head of the party, which is key to creating a new coalition cabinet.

Lapid would regularly take turns with Bennett in the prime minister’s chair. He would take over first.

Netanyahu: It’s a shed of the century
Until now, Bennett has been a key coalition partner for Netanyahu.
–
The current prime minister has already responded to Bennett’s move by saying that it is a “shed of the century” and that Jamina’s boss is exclusively a prime minister.
–
“Four elections have already severely damaged the state – the political crisis in Israel is unprecedented worldwide,” Bennet said, adding that he would devote all his energy to forming a government “with his friend” Lapid.

The current Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu (pictured left), could end up leading the Israeli government after 12 years. He should be replaced by Naftali Bennett (pictured right), his current ally and former defense minister.

The left-wing Merec party and the right-wing Tikva Chadasha (New Hope) would also be part of the government.

President Reuven Rivlin Lapida instructed the formation of the government when Netanyahu failed to do so after March. Lapid has time to reach an agreement by Wednesday, June 2.
