A fun and educational trail in the forest

“La Fée Merveille” is a fun, educational and interactive trail thanks to an application designed by the agents of the National Forest Office in 2017. Elected officials from Grand Poitiers have visited it and could be inspired by it for other places.

“The Fairy Wonder has been shrunk by a bad spell, it’s up to you to restore it to its original size by answering the riddles”. The objective of the mission given to the young hikers is clear, but the steps to get there require observation and reflection.

The Fée Merveille trail in the forest of Vouillé (86) has existed since 2017. It is one of the very first trails designed by the services of the National Forestry Office to better accommodate the public.

At the time it was a project carried out with the community of communes of Vouglaisien and we benefited from the patronage of Cognac Rémy Martin. This allowed us to develop a free application and to call on artists to create furniture.. “, specifies Alain Auffret, director of the ONF agency in Poitou-Charentes.

The Rémy Martin patronage finances projects related to the oaks whose wood they use for their barrels. However, this path of Vouillé is located in the middle of a very beautiful oak grove.

Equipped with the application, downloaded for free on smartphone, hikers can embark on a walk of nearly two hours on a course of 2 kilometers. The site has been designed to take the time to observe the “wonders” of this forest, in particular old trees that are remarkable for their age or their shape.

Artists have also participated in the creation of works and furniture dedicated to this route.

Our trail is just as interesting and enjoyable even without the app and in this case it only takes an hour“, adds Alain Auffret.

There are other ONF courses of this type in Poitou-Charentes, whether on the Ile de Ré or in the Braconne forest in Charente. The next one in preparation will concern the island of Oléron. Its release is scheduled for the end of 2021.
