A friendship that lasts more than 20 years

On July 26, Michelle and Barack Obama endorsed Kamala Harris in her candidacy for the White House. Both expressly showed their support in a phone call.

In the same call, as can be seen in the video accompanying this news, Michelle Obama herself admits to being proud of Kamala, later adding that “this is going to be historic.”

A support that dates back 20 years to the political beginnings of Barack Obama, who stormed into the 2004 Democratic convention.

“The hope of a skinny kid with a funny name who believes that America has a place for him, too,” Obama said in his speech.

A speech that Kamala, who had just become the first female attorney general of San Francisco, witnessed and was very convincing. She was one of the few elected Democrats who not only supported him but also helped him raise funds door to door.

United by their working-class and mixed-race origins, their friendship grew in parallel with their political careers, celebrating Obama’s appointment as President of the United States.

Obama returned her support by giving her a voice for the first time at the 2012 Democratic convention. “If we vote together on November 6 for President Barack Obama, that (American) dream will be within reach for all of our people,” said Harris in support of Obama.

For his part, he has also been present at her big moments, such as when she was sworn in as vice president of the United States. Now, Obama is trying to make Harris, like him, make history by becoming president.
