A fresh genre of “Climate Action” is added by the Zayed Sustainability Prize.

The Zayed Sustainability Prize, the leading global award launched by the UAE to honor innovative sustainability solutions, has announced the creation of a new category for “Climate Action” in support of the award’s mission aimed at stimulating innovative solutions that contribute to facing the repercussions of climate change and protecting the planet’s natural resources.

On this occasion, His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Director General of the Zayed Sustainability Prize, and President-designate of the Conference of the Parties (COP28), said: “The launch of the ‘Climate Action’ category is in line with the vision of the leadership in the UAE to support the development of innovative solutions capable of protecting We hope that the launch of this new category will enhance the positive impact of the award, especially as it coincides with the UAE’s preparations to host the Conference of the Parties (COP28), as well as with the Year of Sustainability that was announced to achieve the objectives of the national strategy to accelerate the process of sustainable development in Country”.

He added: “The UAE is focused on making (COP28) a comprehensive conference that includes everyone and has an effective role in stimulating climate action and developing practical solutions that contribute to achieving comprehensive sustainable development, accelerating the adoption of global policies that support initiatives to adapt to climate change and limit its repercussions, in addition to Providing financing for climate-related projects, and compensating for climate losses and damages.The newly added ‘Climate Action’ category to the Zayed Sustainability Prize dedicates these efforts, as it focuses on supporting the development and dissemination of the solutions that the world needs today in order to achieve the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement and ensure that altitude is avoided. Earth’s temperature is 1.5 degrees C. In this crucial decade for climate action, the new category represents a qualitative and important addition to the award’s efforts, and we look forward to receiving entries from around the world, stimulating and honoring the innovative solutions needed to turn climate pledges into practical results, and making progress tangible, inclusive and sustainable for the planet and our communities.”

The Zayed Sustainability Prize was established in 2008 to perpetuate the legacy of the founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul.

The award honors institutions and high schools that provide sustainable solutions that have the potential to impact, innovate and inspire within the Health, Food, Energy, Water, Global High Schools and the newly added ‘Climate Action’ categories.

Launched at a time when the world is increasingly focused on tackling the impacts of climate change, the Climate Action category will help broaden the range of innovative solutions that have proven effective in tackling environmental problems and empowering communities to address the impacts of climate change, one of the world’s most pressing challenges.

This category includes institutions, small and medium-sized companies, and non-profit organizations that provide solutions that contribute to strengthening the capabilities of adapting to the repercussions of climate change, and support the dissemination of environmental solutions.

The Zayed Sustainability Prize has a 15-year track record of positively impacting the lives of communities and enabling the development of sustainable solutions in the fields of health, food, energy and water. In light of the increasing momentum of global efforts to reduce the repercussions of climate change, the new category will contribute to supporting the award’s efforts to stimulate the development of innovative solutions to address climate problems, and to enable societies to enhance climate resilience.

The Zayed Sustainability Prize has established itself as a global platform for promoting sustainable development and a destination for sustainability pioneers from all over the world.

The award celebrates a rich legacy that extends over 15 years of making a positive impact in the world, with more than 378 million people around the world benefiting from the solutions of the 106 winners honored by the award since its inception.

The award gives $600,000 to each winner in the health, food, energy, water and climate action categories, while the global high school category award is distributed to the six winning schools for the six regions around the world, so that each winning school gets $100,000 to be able to start a new project or expand. Existing project scope.

It is expected that the “Climate Action” category will be well received by those interested in the field of sustainability from all over the world.

The Zayed Sustainability Prize is looking forward to receiving applications from non-profit organizations and small and medium-sized companies no later than May 23, 2023. The winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony that will be held in Abu Dhabi.
