When the helicopter from Freiburg’s DRF Luftrettung flies over the region in the sky, something bad has usually happened or someone urgently needs help. The pilot Oliver Barth often sits in the cockpit. In an interview with Max Schuler, he tells us when he becomes more tense, what a flight minute costs and what kind of work he particularly remembers last year.
BZ: You have one of three intensive care transport helicopters in Baden-Wrttemberg in your ward. How does this differ from other helicopters?
Barth: Intensive care transport helicopters are primarily used to move patients between clinics. That accounts for around 25 percent of our work in Freiburg. The remaining 75 percent are emergency operations.
