A forum on family farming filled the auditorium at the Agricultural University – 2024-10-10 12:13:00


For the 18th time, a workshop was held today in Plovdiv round table on the topic “Challenges before family farming and the development of rural areas in Bulgaria”. The main organizer of the event is Foundation “Earth – source of income” with a chairman Prof. Ivan Penovlecturer in the Department of Economics at the Agrarian University, where the round table was held.

“When we started, we talked about income first. Then – for income and financing. After that, we emphasized that it is good that a person should also have a safe home, because in the villages there is a big problem with the regulation of properties”, Prof. Penov addressed the forum participants. He added that the topic of the round table this time will be enriched with how food is produced, and more precisely organic food, for which there is accumulated experience in the municipality of Brezovo. Natalia Shukadarova, executive director of the National Association of Grain Producers, was invited to speak about communication between the smallest and the largest farmers. She later reported data on a statistical survey conducted on the attitudes of grain and oilseed producers to the requirements of the green deal.

The former AU rector and current regional governor, Prof. Hristina Yancheva, also greeted the participants.

She admitted she felt “at home” in the university’s third auditorium. This time there are many more participants. Prof. Yancheva noted that family farms are extremely important for economic and social life in rural areas. “We have to support their work and also young people,” said the former rector.

The vice-rector Prof. Dimo ​​Atanasov stated that the topic (of family farming), which is being further developed and upgraded every year, is becoming more and more relevant on a global and local scale.” He linked the success of small farms to the educated, informing that every year AU admits about 500 new students, and today graduates have a state exam.

Representatives of the National Agricultural Advisory Service – Plovdiv office, participants from the Green Synergy cluster, from the Trust for a Social Alternative, from the municipality of Brezovo and others took part in the round table.
