A former member of the SJC was acquitted of money laundering in Austria

The former member of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJSC) and former MP Ivan Dimov was acquitted by the Austrian court on the charge of money laundering. He has now been released from custody. The decision is not final. However, according to his lawyer Emanuil Yordanov, it is unlikely that the prosecution will protest the verdict, as there are many gaps in the investigation.

Extradition

Dimov was arrested in early February at the request of the Austrian authorities. After his detention, the Plovdiv court decided to extradite him to Austria.

Yordanov commented to Mediapool that the extradition was in violation of the law because there were every reason to refuse it. According to him, the Plovdiv court acted as a “specialized court”. He added that if Dimov decided to file a lawsuit for compensation, he would not dissuade him.

Before “24 Chasa”, Dimov stated that the Austrian magistrates were surprised that he was sent there at all.

The case was quick and accurate. Thank God, justice can be counted on here“, he told the publication.

Money laundering

The indictment against Dimov claimed that 170,000 euros went into his lawyer’s account. However, the law allows such a practice. Clients can transfer money and the lawyer can dispose of it. In the specific case, payments were made from this money to other people.

At the time of his arrest, Dimov was the chairman of an arbitration court and a lawyer. In the past, he was a member of the SJC nominated by the DPS. Before that, he was a deputy of the UDS. Dimov left the judicial council after the “Krasyo Chernia” scandal in 2010. It was established that he spoke with the alleged lobbyist in the judiciary Krasimir Georgiev 33 times.
