The long-awaited Champions Cup final between La Rochelle and Toulouse gave birth to a very physical encounter in which the players did not spare themselves, far from it. Stade Toulousain resisted the maritime assaults many times in the first period despite repeated charges from Skelton and Botia, before their exclusion. Jean-Baptiste Poux, winner of this European Cup three times in 2003, 2005 and 2010 with the Rouge et Noir, was particularly impressed by this and let it be known:
“The people of La Rochelle were in total aggressiveness and commitment but lacked mastery and lucidity on important moments. They generally dominated the fray (…) The Toulouse people scored more on their highlights, even if I I have rarely seen them so dominated in front (…) I still have in mind images of Skelton charging and who manages to gain meters despite tackles from Tekori and Faumuina. It gives an idea of the physical power of La Rochelle . ” he declared in the columns of the Olympic Midi.
