The boy, named Beau, was playing by the edge of a swimming pool in the coastal town of Byron Bay in southeastern Australia when a python bit him, he fell into the water and wrapped itself around one of his legs , his father Ben Blake told radio station Nine. on Fridays.
“I think the python was just sitting there waiting for prey — a bird or something — and then it was Beau,” Blake said. The boy’s 76-year-old grandfather jumped to the rescue, dived into the pool and pulled him out with the snake still around his leg.
Beau’s father kicked the python out of his leg and tried to calm the situation. “I’m not a kid, I freed him in 15-20 seconds,” he said on the radio. The boy fought bravely. “After we wiped up the blood and told him he wasn’t going to die because he wasn’t a venomous snake, he was actually quite good at it.”
Pythons are not venomous. However, the five-year-old is being treated to prevent the bite from becoming infected.
Blake said the snake was released again. “Look, that’s where we live,” he dismissed the encounter with the snake. “This is Australia. I’m out here.”
