Philippine authorities announced Monday that they have deployed planes and ships to try to locate 14 people. They are missing after a collision between a fishing boat and a freighter.
A Filipino fishing boat, the Liberty 5, and a Hong Kong-registered cargo ship, the Vienna Wood, collided Sunday off the Philippine province of Western Mindoro, and the fishing boat capsized, officials said.
The freighter commander called for rescue “hours later” and the ship was escorted to shore by the Philippine coast guard, said their spokesman, Commander Armando Balilo.
Rescuers are looking for twelve Filipino crew members and two passengers for the fishing boat, whose whereabouts are unknown. Search operations were halted on Sunday due to inclement weather and resumed on Monday morning.
