Three days of play have been completed in the Super League and champions Zurich are already six points behind leader YB. How meaningful is a table after three games anyway?

“It always depends on who you ask,” is Fredy Bickel’s simple answer to the question of how important the start of the season can be for a club. A false start, like that of FC Zurich, who are still winless and goalless in the championship, could unsettle the team and those around them. “If you’re addressing FC Zurich right now. He got a sign that you took a bit of a risk. With a relatively contrary change of coach,” Bickel is convinced and predicts: “You have to be prepared that you have to be very patient this season.”
For Bickel, there are not only initial findings for the FCZ, but also for the leaders of the table. «YB saw that they drew the right conclusions and made the right corrections. You have already shown that you are a very hot candidate for the championship, »said the former sports director of Bern in the football talk home game.
“Not everything can be read from the first games”

Lukas Görtler agrees. «YB has a lot of power. You can see that after three matchdays,” says the St.Gallen captain. But: “I saw Zurich play with us. They have English weeks and were unlucky to be eliminated from Champions League qualifiers three days before. It’s not easy to find the switch. But I don’t think they’re going to be last all season.”
Five quick questions for St.Gallen captain Lukas Görtler
Stefan Eggli asks Lukas Görtler five questions in the football talk home game, which the St.Gallen captain should answer as quickly as possible.

In the last 19 years, the team that was at the top of the table after three to five rounds has also won 55 percent of the championship. The tail light after three to five laps even ranked 80 percent on the last or penultimate place in the table. However, it can also be completely different.
Görtler remembers the 2020/21 season, when he started the season with FCSG with three wins, but had to fight against relegation until the penultimate day. “Not everything can be read from the first games,” says the 28-year-old. Nevertheless, he attaches great importance to the start of the season: “I think it is important for the feeling and the team structure. Victories help enormously to gain self-confidence or to integrate new players. »
Former sports director Bickel admits mistakes

Schaffhausen coach Hakan Yakin also sees team building as one of the key challenges at the start of a season. “Players come and go, that’s good too, that makes it interesting,” says Yakin. “It is important that you integrate the new players into the team. You also need the players who have been there for a long time.” If that doesn’t work out as hoped, unrest can quickly arise in a team – especially if the first competitive games are unsuccessful.
Former sports director Fredy Bickel knows that too. «I fired the same coach twice after a relatively short time. Those were mistakes in that it was due to my stubbornness.” He really wanted to give Uli Forte another chance at YB before the start of the season. The plan didn’t work out, Bickel had to pull the ripcord after three games of the season.
This year, after all, all Super League coaches made it to the fourth day of the game. Did you learn from Bickel’s mistakes?
